Fresh clashes erupt between police, KJR Committee

Kolkata, May 20: Police lathicharged members of Krishi Jami Raksha Committee when they were marching towards the Tata Motors factory at Singur near here today.

Two rounds of tear gas were also fired to bring the agitators under control, police said.

Several people were reported to have been injured in the firing.

Krishi Jami Raksha Committee had called a meeting in Singur in protest against the land acquisition for Tata Motor's small car project and the rally was marching towards the factory when the police stopped them.

Chandannagar SDO Kalyan Mukherjee was injured in the melee, police said. Other police officials were also present at the spot.
