CPI(M) to continue Bhoo Poratam at any cost: Yechury
Vijayawada, May 20 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today evening declared that the ongoing Bhoo Poratam (land struggle), seeking possession of government lands for housing to the poor, would continue at any cost in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking at a public meeting here, party polit bureau member Sitaram Yechuri said the police had arrested 1,000 activists and leaders since the agitation was started and there was 100 non-bailable warrants against them.
Lashing out the state government for arresting the leaders, he said the land struggle started by the party would further strengthen them to achieve their goal.
Mr Yechury said after the collapse of USSR, every one thought CPM was written off, but the party came in a position to control national politics.
Pointing out that the people had given a mandate in 2004 that without the support of left parties, no government could run on its own at the Centre, he said, he said that to keep the communal forces at bay and to strengthen the secular forces in the country, the left parties were giving outside support to the UPA.
