CPI(M) has no candidate for Presidential election: Yechury
Vijayawada, May 20 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has not decided any name for the Presidential election to be held in July, party Politburo member Sitaram Yechury said.
Speaking at a public meeting here today evening, he said the party proposed certain criteria to UPA for choosing a person for the Presidency. The nominee should have certain credentials and should understand political complexities, he added.
He said CPI(M) was in favour of a third alternative and not a third front, as proposed by some political parties.
''We don't want a cut and paste third front as there would be no ideological congruence and stability,'' he added.
Mr Yechury said the terrorism was on the rise in the country and the recent bomb blasts in Hyderabad, Guwahati, Delhi, Malegaon and in Samjutha Express was a clear indication of it.
The people of the country should face the challenge posed by the terrorists, he added.
