Agartala, May 20 (UNI) The Ministry for Development of North East Region (DoNER) has decided to support the India National Trust for Art and Culture Heritage (INTACH) for preserving the cultural heritage of the North East.

''Despite great diversity, there is unity in the country but it is now being threatened and the ethnic culture of the NE states needed to be protected substantially,'' State Cultural Minister Anil Sarkar told newspersons here today.

Opposing the perpetual argument of NE being alienated, Mr Sarkar reiterated that the NE people were scattered all over the country while people from other parts of the country had also settled in this part.

He alleged that the Centre had neglected the area of preserving the NE heritage and exposure of NE to the rest of India was very limited.

However, appreciating the Centre's decision, he said some amount from the total allocation to the region could be used for NE's exposure to the rest of the country.
