Patna, May 20 (UNI) The Bihar unit of the People's Union for Civil Liberties, today condemnned the arrest of its National Vice-President Binayak Sen under Chattisgarh Special Public Security Act.

PUCL state President Vinay K.Kantha here described Dr Sen's arrest as an ''act of state repression and vengeance'' and demanded his immediate release and withdrawal of all cases against him.

''We consider this is an act of state repression as Chattisgarh unit of PUCL has been constantly exposing acts of police and state action in violation of human rights specially against the innocent tribals,'' Mr Kantha said.

Claiming that Dr Sen always stood for justice and fair play as a leading human rights activist in the country, the Bihar PUCL chief regretted that Dr Sen was also accused of meeting Maoist leaders in jail without having any basis.
