Armed dacoits loot Rs 1.5 lakh retired policeman's residence

Barasat, May 20: Armed gangmen stole Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and about 250 gms of jewellery from a former policeman's residence in North 24 Parganas today.

The dacoits entered the house of retired police personnel Nirod Sarkar at about 3-30 am in Kumra Kashipur village under Habra Police station here.

The miscreants assaulted Mr Sarkar and confined the family members within a room at gunpoint, while they looted money and gold ornaments, among other things.

Police have already started investigation. However, no arrests have been made so far, police said.

Dacoities in Habra, Ashoknagar, Gaighat police station areas of North 24 Parganas, continued unabated in spite of the police who were still investigating several cases. Neither were the miscreants booked nor the looted cash, jewellery or other stolen materials recovered.

Police were examining the nature of crime in the incidents of neighouring police station areas, on whether the same gang has been operating, a senior police officer said.
