82.29 per cent succeeds in SSLC examination
Thiruvananthapuram, May 20 (UNI) Registering an all-time record, 82.29 per cent candidates have come out successfully in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination.
Announcing the results here today, Kerala Education Minister M A Baby said, ''This is the highest ever percent age of candidates passed in the SSLC examination in the state and that too without awarding any additional score to students, as practiced in the previous years.'' Mr Baby said out of 4,58,763 candidates who appeared for the examination this year under the new scheme, 3,76,386 candidates qualified for the higher education.
In private new scheme, 52.43 per cent candidates qualified and in old scheme it was 35.83, he said.
Mr Baby said the government had an anxiety over the results.
The government had a confusion on how the students faced the new method of examination introduced by it from this year onwards.
According to the new system the students had to appear in only ten papers instead of 13 papers as in the past.
Mr Baby also said with the special action taken by the government, it succeeded in bringing 104 schools, which had below 33 per cent of pass last year, to 50 per cent and above. Five schools succeeded in achieving 100 per cent pass, while 13 schools achieved above 90 per cent, he added.
The Education Minister said 340 schools succeeded in producing 100 per cent candidates eligible for higher education, while five government run schools could produce only 33 per cent, the lowest, in the state.
