ULFA victims' families protest in Asom
Guwahati, May 19 (UNI) The families of ULFA victims in Barpeta district of lower Asom today staged a dharna demanding from the outfit the reasons for killing of their kin and whereabouts of the kidnapped people.
Assam Public Works' (APW), an anti-ULFA group under whose banner the protest was staged, secretary general Abhijit Sharma said, ''The ULFA must answer as what was the fault of these killed and kidnapped people.
Earlier, families of ULFA victims from across the state had staged a two-day protest here from April 27.
Mr Sharma said the APW would continue its protests against the atrocities of the ULFA across the length and breadth of the state till the outfit stopped its 'bloody' activities.
The APW accused the ULFA leadership of being sold out at the hands of fundamentalists groups and reduced to puppets under the hands of organisations in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
It alleged that the ULFA was helping enemy nations to gain control over the state by instigating the people against each other.
Reiterating the APW's resolve to pursue democratic protests, the secretary general said, ''We will continue with our protests, but in a manner that is not disruptive or harmful to anyone.'' Hinting towards the week-long national highway blockade in Doomdooma in Upper Asom, which ended only after six persons were killed in ethic clashes that broke out due to the food shortage the blockade created, Mr Sharma said, ''Protests should not be stressed beyond a limit for ulterior motives.'' He warned the ULFA that its days are numbered as the people of the state have started realizing that the leadership of the militant outfit was working for their own good, forsaking the welfare of the state at the hands of foreign nations.
