TDP announces ex-gratia for families of victims
Hyderabad, May 19: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu today announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of those killed and Rs 10,000 to each of the injured.
Talking to newspersons after visiting the historic Mecca Masjid where yesterday's bomb blast killed 14 people and left more than 50 injured here, he said though the Centre had alerted the state about the possibility of such incidents, the state government had not taken ''proper measures'' to avert the disaster.
Criticising the police firing on the irate mob, he said police should have first used water cannons, teargas shells and firing in the air but according to his information, the police had straight away opened fire.
The Andhra Pradesh government has already announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 20,000 to the injured. Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy also announced that the government would provide houses to the shelterless.
