New law is needed for preservation of heritage sites-Lakhawat
Jaipur, May 19 (UNI) Rajasthan Heritage Preservation and Promotion Authority Chairman and former MP Onkar Singh Lakhwat today stressed the need for a special law for effective preservation of ancient art, culture and architect at heritage locations spread over the state in a large number.
Participanting in the meet organised by the Journalists Union of Rajasthan(JAR) here today Mr Lakhawat said the prevailing law, is not sufficient for the purpose as it dealt only with notified monuments.
He said the authority had sought help from the legal experts for proposing draft of the new law after thorough study of existing laws in other states or countries.
Mr Lakhawat clarified that the authority wanted to preserve heritage properties with active participation of property owners and local people without infringement of the ownership.
Presently, the authority had undertaken a project to preserve and and refurbish 16 heritage sites situated in different districts of the state.
The authority was also working to build its organisational set up in all districts and sub divisional head quarters by setting up district and sub divisional committees with joint participation of representatives of local people, local administration and experts, Mr Lakhawat added.
