Modi seeks Korean cooperation for ship-building industry

Gandhinagar, May 19 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today sought cooperation of Korea for the development of ship-building industry in Gujarat, as it is endowed with a vast coastline.

The Chief Minister, on the last day of his visit, had a very fruitful meeting with Dr Sim, who is the founder of Korean Maritime Consultant Company and also the architect to put Korea on top in the world in ship-building.

Mr Modi showed keen interest in rejuvenating the ship-building industry in Gujarat, with the cooperation of the Korean Company.

Expressing his confidence, Dr Sim said India can become a leader in Asia in the ship-building industry, with Gujarat as the an ideal centre.

Expressing his commitment for the development of ship-building industry in Gujarat, Mr Modi urged Dr Sim to cooperate in this regard. He also told Dr Sim that Gujarat will set up a Maritime University to create skilled manpower for port development management and maritime engineering in the state.

A high level delegation, led by the Chief Minister, visited the world's biggest tidal waves-based power project, Sinhwa Tidal Power Project, which is under-construction. The delegation also visited Korean Water Resources Corporation's Industrial and Ecological Tourism site and Sinhwa Water Management Project's technology.

Those present on the occasion included Chief Secretary Sudhir Mankad, Kapsar Project advisor B N Navlawala, Principal Secretary of Industry D Rajagopalan, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Kailasnathan, Managing Director of GSFC Taneja and representatives from trade and industry.
