Minister assures setting up of a separate Academy for Children
Hubli, May 19 (UNI) Karnataka Minister for Revenue Jagadish Shettar today assured of taking a decision on setting up of a separate Academy for children in the State after consultation with the concerned.
Speaking as a chief guest in the inaugural function of fifth state level two-day Children Literary conference here, he asserted that such conferences would help to bring out the talent in the children and said television was responsible for ruining the concentration of children.
Veteran Hindustani vocalist Gangubai Hangal, in her inaugural address, said that she never went to school and she was happy to be amongst the children now.
Veteran Journalist Patil Puttappa, who spoke on the occasion, expressed concern over scarcity of children literature in the country saying no books were coming for children to read and enjoy.
Noted Kannada writer Channaveer Kanavi, who also spoke on the occasion, criticized the government's decision to introduce English as a subject in Kannada schools.
