Hooda asks PM for Military Schools in Jhahhar, Rewari

Chandigarh, May 19 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to commence the construction of Military School at Matanhail in Jhajjar district of Haryana, the foundation stone of which was laid in the year 2003 by the then Defence Minister.

Mr Hooda, speaking at the 27th meeting of Kendriya Sainik Board held in New Delhi today, also requested the Prime Minister to open a second Sainik School in the Southern Haryana, preferably in Rewari district.

He said that the people of Haryana are anxiously awaiting for announcement regarding the establishment of National Defence University here as also a Brigade-size Military Station in Rewari which has a rich military tradition.

He stressed that Haryana had 1.58 lakh serving soldiers and 2.71 lakh ex-servicemen. He said that the total strength of ex-servicemen, serving soldiers, widows of ex-servicemen and their families was 19.15 lakh.

Mr Hooda said that a number of gallantry awards, like Victoria Cross, Param Vir Chakra, Mahavir Chakra and Vir Chakra in various battlefields have been won by the sons of Haryana. He said that in recognition of their services, Haryana Government was fully committed to the welfare of the ex-servicemen, the serving personnel and their wards.

He said that during the last two years, a number of decisions for the welfare of serving soldiers, ex-servicemen and their dependents have been taken and a sum of Rs. 21.55 crore were spent on the welfare of ex-servicemen.

He said that the State Government has spent Rs 1.50 crore on Sainik Pariwar Bhawans during 2006-07 and 351 wards of war widows, widows and ex-servicemen have been given one-year training during the last year, totally free which also included boarding and lodging facilities.

The Chief Minister said that the Haryana Government was providing employment to ex-servicemen and financial assistance at the time of the marriage of daughters of war widows, 100 per cent war disabled ex-servicemen and the orphan daughters of ex-servicemen. He said that additional pension to the widows and to the children of defence forces personnel who died while in service has been doubled.

Mr Hooda said that 27 sainik rest houses have been built and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) planned to develop defence colonies at Rohtak, Rewari, Hisar, Jhajjar, Jind, Narnaul, Bahadurgarh and Karnal.

He said that the State Government has also floated 798 plots for defence personnel at Rohtak under exclusive scheme.
