Girls once again outclass boys in ICSE, ISC exams
New Delhi, May 19 (UNI) Girls once again outshone boys on both levels -- Class X and XII -- achieving pass percentage of above 98 per cent, even as boys remained at 97 and 96 per cent respectively, according to results declared by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations today.
Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations Additional Secretary G Arathoon told mediapersons that while girls achieved a pass percentage of 98.53 per cent in ICSE (Class X), boys could manage a pass percentage of just 97.51 per cent.
In the ISC examinations too girls scored higher than the boys roping in a pass percentage of 98.24 per cent, while the boys scored a pass percentage of 95.95 per cent, he said.
''While ICSE exams were conducted in 61 languages, including 20 Indian and eleven foreign with the participation of 1,364 schools and 97,303 candidates, the ISC examination had 50 subjects of which 14 were Indian and six foreign and had 638 schools and 45,293 students participting in it.'' In ICSE exams, 852 (1.56 per cent) of 54,554 participating boys failed while 359 (0.84 per cent) of total 42,749 girls could not pass, said Mr Arathoon adding that in ISC examination 562 boys (2.21 per cent) out of 25,375 failed while just 192 (0.96 per cent) among 19,918 girls plucked.
The Additional Secretary also said in ICSE 2,132 scheduled caste candidates participated and achieved a pass percentage of 96.29, up by 3.90 per cent of last year's result. Similarly, 96.74 per cent of 2,786 scheduled tribe candidates passed which was, however, 4.07 per cent below last year's tally.
In ISC exams, while 733 SC candidates participated and 95.50 per cent succeeded, of 1,059 ST candidates 94.62 per cent were successful, he added.
