UP: Eight injured in clash in Meerut jail
Meerut, May 19: At least eight convicts were injured in a clash between two groups in the Chaudhury Charan Singh jail here.
The District administration claimed that the situation was now fully under control. Three convicts have been admitted to hospital.
Additional District Magistrate Manvendra Singh said a argument broke out between prisoners of Baghpat district who were being taken for court appearances, on some issue. According to him, a clash occured between inmates of barracks five and 13 when they returned to the jail. Spoons were sharpened and used as weapons in the fight, in which eight people were injured.
On getting information of the clash, authorities rushed to the spot and fired three rounds in the air in a bid to quell the clash.
Three of the injured were admitted to the jail hospital, while the rest were discharged after first aid.
The ADM claimed that the situation in the jail was now fully under control.
