Hyderabad, May 19: Normal life was badly affected in the city due to the bandh called by the All India Mujlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in protest against yesterday's bomb blast at the historical Mecca Masjid which left 14 people dead and more than 50 injured.
Police said bus services were totally suspended in the sensitive old city area and shops were closed in most parts of the city.
The old city was deserted as the police blocked the roads and imposed restrictions on plying vehicles.
Attendance in government offices were thin and most of the offices located in the old city were closed. Some departments had declared holiday.
Paramilitary forces, RAF and Special Police were deployed in sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incident.
However, hospitals, medical and vegetable shops were allowed to open in the old city. Security had been strengthened at all religious places since last night, they said.
Reports from Telangana districts said all political parties had organised peace rallies in protest against the blast. No incident of violence had been reported so far.
