Woman killed for dowry

Hardwar, May 18 (UNI) A case of dowry death was reported this morning after a woman was found dead in Kankhal, a township of Hardwar city.

The sources said the body of Renu(25), who was killed last night, was found hanging from a ceiling fan.

The father of the deceased, Brij Pal Singh told the police that the husband of his daughter, Vishal Bhatt and her in-laws used to demand dowry from her since her marriage, one and a half years ago.

He alleged that due to his inability to fulfil the heavy demands, his daughter was killed.

The Kankhal police has registered a case under section 304B of the IPC against Renu's husband, his brother, Gautam Bhatt, his father, Purshottam Bhatt and his mother, Shashi Bhatt.

Acting promptly, the police has arrested all the four accused and the body of Renu was sent to the district hospital for a post-mortem.

An irate mob gheraoed the police station and all the markets of the township remained closed to protest the gruesome murder.
