TN CM announces assistance for deceased journalist's families

Chennai, May 18 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced assistance to the tune of Rs seven lakh to the families of four journalists who died in harness under the journalists welfare scheme.

An official release here said Rs 2,00,000 each were given to the family of S Mariappan, Makkal Seidhi Tirunelveli reporter, who died on March 20, 2001, D Paulraj, Reporter, Dinakaran, Chennai, who died on December 12, 2004, Salem Dina Thanthi Reporter A Jaggaiyan, who died on January 5, 2007 and Rs 1,00,000 to the family of Sayed Ahmed, Vellore Manichudar Reporter.

The assistance was given from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.

Meanwhile, Mr Karunanidhi also announced an assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh to Dinabhoomi photographer S John Suresh Kumar, who was undergoing treatment for cancer, the release added.

Tamil Nadu Union of Journalists President D S Ravindra Doss thanked the Chief Minister for announcing this.
