Three-day camp of NHRC begins in Patna
Patna, May 18: The three-day camp of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) began here where a number of human rights violation cases were disposed off.
The commission's full bench comprising its chairman Justice S Rajendra Babu, and memebrs- Shivraj V Patil, Y Bhaskar Rao, R S Kalha and P C Sharma heard the versions of the senior police and civil officers of the Bihar government in human rights violation cases.
State chief secretary A K Chaudhary, Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah and IG (prison) Sandeep Poundrik, District Magistrates and Police Superintendents of several districts also put their versions on the violation of human rights.
Most of the cases which came up before the commission were related to police atrocities, custodial death--either in jail or in lock-up and non-compliance of orders of the government.
According to official sources, NHRC had decided to hold its special sitting in state capitals to expedite the process of disposal of the human rights violation cases. First such sitting was held in Lucknow from January 18 to January 20 this year.
