Sonia denounces Hyderabad blast

New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today denounced the bomb explosion at the Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad, saying it was a ''senseless act''.

She expressed deep concern and grief over the death of five people in the incident.

Expressing her condolences to the bereaved families, Ms Gandhi asked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to take immediate steps to bring those responsible for the explosion to book.

At least five people were killed and several injured in the bomb explosion, near the world-famous Charminar in the old city, during the Friday prayer this afternoon.
