MP: Socialist leader N P Shrivastava dead
Bhopal, May 18: Veteran Socialist leader and former Madhya Pradesh Assembly Deputy Speaker Narmada Prasad Shrivastava died at his residence here early this morning following a heart attack. He was 80.
He breathed his last at about 0500 hours.
His funeral will be performed at the Subhash Nagar crematorium here tomorrow, his son Vijay Prakash said.
Born at Ameta village near Lanji in Balaghat district on August 20, 1926, Shrivastava was a prominent legal expert and elected to the Madhya Pradesh Assembly for four terms from Lanji.
He was first elected on the ticket of Praja Socialist Party in 1962 and became the Deputy Speaker.
In 1967, he was elected to the Assembly on Congress ticket and became Minister for Law and Public Works in the Samyukta Vidhayak Dal (SVD) Ministry headed by Mr Govind Narain Singh.
He was an independent MLA during 1972-77, while he was elected on Janata Party ticket in 1985 and remained its floor leader till 1990.
