Six per cent DA for J and K employees, IAS officer working in state

Srinagar, May 18 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government has sanctioned a six per cent Dearness Allowance (DA) in favour of its employees and pensioners, besides Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer working in the state.

An official spokesman said here today the decision to release the 6 per cent DA was taken at a cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad here last evening.

He said the total DA will be hiked from 29 per cent to 35 per cent with effect from January this year.

This, he said, will also apply to IAS officers working in the state.

The employees and the pensioners will be paid the DA installment arrears in cash, the cabinet decision said.

The Cabinet also sanctioned Sub-Treasuries at Boniyar (Baramulla), Lar (Ganderbal), Devsar (Anantnag) and Tangste block Durbak, Leh.

He said the Cabinet also approved recommendations of Cabinet Sub-Committee regarding creation of new administrative units.

Meanwhile, the Civil Secretariat Non-Gazetted Employees Union has hailed the decision of government to release 6 per cent DA installment in their favour and pensioners with effect from January 2007.

Employees of 35 different state government departments recently took to the streets, demanding an increase in the DA. However, they were also demanding regularisation of service of those daily wagers working in different departments for the past ten to 20 years.
