New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) A seven-day exhibition of works of art by Heymunt Puri and his wife Meenakshi Puri went on show at Lalit Kala Akademi here last evening.

''My works are about the bond between man and woman within the trammels of society. They also talk about a woman as an individual, their alienation and their repression,'' said Mr Puri, whose paintings are titled 'Mannequine'.

The artist explained that the text used in his exhibits plays an imperative role in each of his work.

''They have a hidden satire targeting the male-dominant society where a woman is treated like a commodity,'' said Mr Puri.

'Mannequine', a confluence of text and visuals, is a compilation of 18 paintings, including 15 in acrylic and 3 drawings.

'''Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear' or 'Cut along the dotted line', are few lines used in my paintings to portray the way a woman is looked upon here,'' the artist said.

'Mindscapes', the paintings by Meenakshi Puri, centre around the theme of 'Bindu'.

She said her paintings were a reflection of her unison with the supreme power. The 'Bindu' is the centre of the energy which drives the whole world and her work focuses on that energy, said Ms Puri.

''The works put on display tell the story of a journey. A journey from the outer world to the inner one where there is nothing material but only spiritual,'' said the painter.

Ms Puri has 42 works, all pastels on paper, on display.
