P K Abdul Azis appointed AMU Vice-Chancellor

New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam, in his capacity as the visitor of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has appointed Professor P K Abdul Azis as its Vice-Chancellor for five years.

Prof Azis, a scientist and an ecology consultant for urban development, is at present the Vice-Chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology.

His research work on seawater desalination and power industry has been globally recognised.

Author of more than 77 research papers in reputed journals, books and proceedings, Prof Azis was the principal Investigator of 16 Indian Council of Agriculture Research projects and also served as Professor in Saudi Arabia-based Research and Development Centre's Saline Water Conversion Corporation.

He was associated with the Kerala Agriculture University for 27 years and as an academic involved in the study of ecology of different aquatic ecosystems in coastal waters, beaches, estuaries, fresh water lakes, rivers and the impact of river basin projects.

The Kerala University conferred upon him the degree of Doctor Science (D Sc) for his contributions in the field of ecology in 2004.
