NEC meeting focuses on air-connectivity

Aizawl, May 18 (UNI) The fifth sectoral summit of the North Eastern Council (NEC) begining here today will focus on improving the air-connectivity in North Eastern states.

Department of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister and NEC chairman Mani Shankar Aiyar will present introductory notes at the summit, official sources informed.

Manipur Governor S S Sidhu would give a presentation on airline service for NE on the second and concluding day of the summit.

Actions taken on the basis of the decision taken at the 53rd meeting of the NEC would be discussed and the thrust areas of the NEC for the 11th Plan would be chalked out at the meeting.

Besides, matters pertaining to upgradation and construction of airports in NE would also be discussed.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel is also expected to address the summit.

Besides, the DoNER minister would commission the Greater Aizawl Water Supply Scheme Phase II on May 20 at Dihmunzawl near here, official sources added.
