Man held at Airport for trying to smuggle goods worth Rs 37 lakh

Mumbai, May 18 (UNI) The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials today arrested a passenger at the Chhtrapati Shivaji International Airport here on charges of smuggling goods worth about Rs 37 lakhs.

Mohammed Badruddin Alam, who arrived here from Dubai by an Oman Airways flight (WY-8050), was nabbed after the customs sleuths found 717 memory chips and some other dutiable goods, worth nearly Rs 37 lakh, from his possession, according to a AIU release.

The arrested passenger had concealed the goods in his underclothes and two soft drink cans, the release added.

The officials claimed that on interrogation, Alam confessed to the offence.
