Jogi describes naxal encounter as fake

Raipur, May 18 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi has claimed that police had staged a fake encounter and killed two labourers.

In a statement issued here yesterday, Mr Jogi said three labourers from Avapalli in Bijapur district had gone to Dantewara in search of work. The labourers were taking food at an acquaintance's home when police cordoned them off and opened fire.

Two of them died on the spot, while one was injured.

He claimed that the labourers did not possess weapons and had not attacked police.

Citing information received from Konta MLA Kawasi Lakma, he said later police arranged two rifles and claimed that it belonged to the deceased. He said police had once again targetted innocent people after Panjer.

Police had claimed that it shot dead two naxalites and arrested another in an encounter near Dantewada district town yesterday.
