Srinagar, May 18 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) today raided the houses of an educational official and his relative and recovered incriminating documents pertaining to movable and immovable assests in the Kashmir valley.

A VO spokesman said the personnel of the Organisation today conducted raids in the residential premises of Bashir Ahmad Sofi, who is working as senior Assistant Chief Education officer, Shopian.

He said simultaneous search was also conducted in the residential premises of his brother-in-law Nazir Ahmad Bhat at Delipora, Pulwama.

He said a complaint was received by the VO alleging that the accused was in possession of disproportionate assests to his known source of income.

During the course of which it was revealed that the accused during his service carrier, by indulging in corrupt practices, has raised assests including a two storeyed concrete residential house at Tangwani, Tukroo, a single storey house with five shops on one kanal of land purchased by him on the main Pulwam-Shopian road, five kanals of land at Tukroo and 3.6 kanals of paddy land at Pulwama on Murran road.

The accused is also in possession of one Tata Sumo and one Tata 608 bus besides having huge bank deposits and LIC policies.

The verification conducted further revealed that the expenditure incurred by the suspect in acquiring these assests is much more and as such apparently disproportionate to his known sources of income which constitutes offence punishable under the relevant provision of Jammu and Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006.

The investigation of the case is in progress.
