Hyderabad blast, Sachha Sauda issue: UP on high alert

Lucknow, May 19 (UNI) Following the blast at a Hyderabad mosque today, security has been beefed up at all important religious, historical and public places in Uttar Pradesh.

Secretary (home) R M Srivastava told mediapersons here security agencies had been directed to maintain extra vigil, especially in Sikh dominated areas.

''In wake of widespread protests in Punjab and Haryana over Dera Sacha Sauda issue, security had been strengthened in the state, especially western UP, which has a large population of the Sikh community,'' he said.

Security in Bagpat district has been stepped up to tackle any possible disturbance as there is a Dera Sacha Sauda Ashram in Binauli area and a large number number of pilgrims visit the place, Mr Srivastava said.

Meanwhile, a report from Mathura said security was also tightened at Shri Krishna Janmasthal, following the Hyderabad bomb blast and hue and cry arising out of the 'Dera Sacha Sauda' episode.

A large number of security personnel have been deployed round the clock at Dwarkadheesh, Banke Bihari and Krishna-Balram temples and important mosques of the district.

With terror threat haunting large on the traditional Purushottam Mela going on at Gowardhan, police has been asked to leave no stone unturned for maintaining peace and tranquility.
