Heat, humidity leave Delhiites in sweat,Mercury rises to 38 Deg C

New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) After a cool day, the heat of the Sun today left Delhiites "in a sweat" as the mercury rose to 38 degrees Celsius.

Though the maximum temperature of 38 degrees C was still three degrees below normal, a sharp rise in humidity levels to 44 per cent left people of Delhi sweating, thus forcing them to remain in the comfort of their homes or air conditioned offices.

The humidity also caused the minimum temperature to rise sharply from 23 Degree C yesterday, to 26.5 Degree C today.

A sudden burst of rainfall in the capital on Wednesday evening brought the mercury down by several Degrees, bringing people much needed relief from the scorching heat.

About 21.3 mm of rainfall was recorded till Thursday morning.

The coolness in the air is expected to return to Delhi towards the weekend with weathermen forecasting rain and thundershowers, accompanied by squall. In Delhi and other parts of Northwest India in the next three days under influence of a fresh Western disturbance.

The Met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with possibility of rain and thundershowers accompanied by squall in some areas.

They have also forecast a maximum temperature of 38 degrees C tomorrow.
