HC notice for expeditious trial of Uphaar cinema tragedy

New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today issued a notice to the Delhi government to expedite the trial of the Uphaar cinema tragedy case.

Hearing a petition filed by the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT) seeking an expeditious disposal of the trial within a stipulated timeframe as per the order dated April 4, 2002, a division bench headed by Justices Mukul Mudgal and P K Bhasin ordered the Delhi government to file its reply on May 23.

According to the petition, the Delhi High Court had directed the lower court on April 2002 to conclude the trial by Decemeber 15, 2002.

However, five years have since passed but the conclusion of the case is not yet in sight.
