Govt to introduce online registration of properties

Bangalore, May 18 (UNI) The Karnataka Government is toying with the idea of registering immovable properties online to curb corruption, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar said today.

Speaking to newspersons here, the minister said he had directed the officials of the department to submit a report to him in two months. If this was done, anyone could register their property in any Sub Registrar's office after paying the required guidance value of the property as specified.

Referring to the criticism with regard to auction of encroached lands, he said the government had never encouraged any developer to secure land in public auction. Of the 7,800 acres recovered, 796 acres were auctioned and the bid amount paid to the government was Rs 516 crore. However, the government had decided to re-auction 455 acres as it was felt that the bid value was not satisfactory.

He assured that the land, reserved for various government agencies, including the Bangalore Development Authority, would be allotted if they come forward with a proposal.

Answering a question, he said he would soon come out with a list of 900 names of encroachers and the process of punishing them under the law had already commenced.

Those, against whom the First Information Report were filed with the police also included 100 government officials, he added.
