Free dinner with criminal: Six cops suspended in UP
Lucknow, May 18 (UNI) In its first affirmative action against the criminal-police nexus after the Mayawati government came to power in Uttar Pradesh, police today suspended six police personnel for enjoying a free treat with a criminal whom they were escoring for a court appearance.
Six policemen, including a sub-inspector, had taken notorious criminal Ajay Jadeja on a transit remand to Agra from Unnao to appear before a special anti-dacoity court on May 15.
While returning from the court, the criminal treated his escorts at hotel Sanjay Palace at Agra.
After the incident came to light, SP (Unnao) V K Garg ordered a probe which proved that police personnel ignored standing orders and rules to enjoy the food paid for by the criminal.
This morning, the SP suspended S-I Radheyshyam Mishra, head constable J P Sonkar and four constables with immediate efect.
The action against police personnel came a day before the Chief Minister is to hold a meeting of district police chiefs and district magistrates in the state capital.
