Dasmunshi to attend Banga Sammelan in Andaman

Port Blair, May 18 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunshi will visit Andaman and Nicobar islands on June 3 to attend Banga Sammelan, a conference of Bengal Association for Andaman and Nicobar Islands (BAANI).

Other dignitaries likely to attend the conference are West Bengal Urban Development Minister Gautam Deb and Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Bhopinder Singh, Dr P K Halder president of BAANI told UNI today.

Besides discussion on various issues of the Bengali population in these islands, a few distinguished persons would be honoured for their life-time contribution in various fields in these islands.

The fourth issue of the magazine BAANI would be released during the conference.

Atul Smriti Samity, popularly known as Bengali club, would also be awarded for promoting excellence in Bengali culture in these islands, Halder said.

Meanwhile, in an official letter addressed to the lone Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr Dasmunshi had confirmed his visit there.

Andaman Group of islands are dominated by Bengalis most of whom were settled in these islands during Bangladesh formation.
