Court refuses bail to 3 cops in fake encounter case

Robertsganj, May 18 (UNI) A lower court today rejected the bail application of three policemen and sent them to jail in a fake encounter case of Sonbhadra district.

The prime accused in the Rantola encounter case, sub inspector Rameshwar Rai, constables Ashok Kumar and Raveendra Maurya had surrendered in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) V K Singh.

The judge rejected their bail application.

On December 2, 2003, police had gunned down an Allahabad University student Prabhat Srivastava and Ramashankar Sahu in a fake encounter.

However, some human rights activists raised the issue and demanded a CB-CID inquiry in the case.

On February 20, 2006, an FIR was lodged against 15 policemen including four sub-inspectors.
