Century-old library renovated at Rs 1 cr
Surat, May 18 (UNI) A century-old library ''Sayaji Vaibhav Library'' in Navsari, was renovated at a cost of Rs one crore and the new complex will be inaugurated by Swami Sachdanand on May 20.
The library, which was founded by Maharaj Sayaji Rao Gaekwad in 1899, was closed in 2001 after the buiding developed cracks. Later a committee was formed to renovate the library and the renovation work is now complete.
It is one of the oldest libraries in South Gujarat, having a rare collection of books in Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu, Sanskrit, Marathi and English. It also subscribes 144 magazines, 16 daily newspapers and has a total collection of 81,250 books.
