Centre allots 50 lakh for women
Pathanamthitta, May 18 (UNI) Kerala Women's Commission Chairperson Justice D Sreedevi today said the Centre had allotted Rs 50 lakh for welfare activities for the women in the state.
Talking to reporters here, she said the grant sanctioned by the Centre was at the behest of Central Planning Board.
She said the Commission would initiate grass-roots level studies to find out the deserved beneficiaries among women employees working in various fields.
The report of the study would form the basis for the utilisation of the Central grant, she said.
Pointing out that cases of atrocities against women were on the rise in Kerala, she blaimed films and T V serials for this.
She said the women's commission planned to hold discussions with directors of films and T V serials to reach a consensus on stemming the erosion of human values. Self-awareness campaigns would also be launched among women, she added.
She said the commission would form ''alert committees'' in all the districts to handle the problems of atrocities against women.
Moreover, ''helping units'' would be formed to provide confidence to widows and women belonging to Backward sections.
