CBI court convicts 4 Rly staff in cheating case
Chennai, May 18 (UNI) The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Coimbatore today convicted four Southern Railway officials to undergo four years rigorous imprisonment for cheating a group of unemployed youths and collecting Rs 6.47 lakh from them by promising them joss in Southern and Konkan Railways.
An official press release said here based on a complaint from the youths, the CBI Chennai filed a charge-sheet in June 2003 against K Ramanujam, junior engineer attached to the Divisional Railway Manager's Office, Palghat Division, V Vijayam, senior clerk with DRM Office, Palghat Division, P Dasarathan, Office of the Carriage and Wagon Superintendent, Southern Railway, Jolarpet, Chennai Division and V Lakshmanan, Diesel Assistant Driver, Office of the Chief Crew Running Controller, Southern Railway, Erode during June 2003.
After completion of trial, the judge convicted them and also imposed fine of Rs 17,000 each on Dasarathan and Lakshmanan and directed Ramanujam to pay a fine of Rs 9000 and Vijayan Rs 7,000, the release added.
