Shimla, May 18 (UNI) Former spokesman of the Himachal Pradesh BJP unit, Ganesh Dutt, today accused the state government of allowing employees owing allegiance to Congress party to campaign for its candidates for the coming Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) elections.

On the other hand, government employees sympathetic to the BJP were being harassed on the basis of false complaints being lodged against them, he said here.

Mr Dutt appealed to State Election Commission to take strict action against the state employees openly campaigning in favour of Congress candidates for the SMC, which goes to the polls on May 23.

From last three days, public meeting were being organised at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), ignoring inconvenience to the patients and against the norms, he said.

Accusing the government of misusing official machinery for campaigning in favour of Congress candidates, he said the Congress-led corporation had failed miserably during its 21-year-long rule in the local body.

The BJP leader said the Congress was resorting to ''devious methods'' to retain control over the corporation, which had failed in creating even the basic infrastructure.

The ''greatest'' gift by the Congress Government to people was ''to supply polluted drinking water that led to the outbreak of Jaundice in the town recently,'' he said.

He made an appeal to the electorate to vote in favour of the BJP candidates in the corporation elections to ''change the face of the town''.
