Shimla, May 18 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh unit of the BJP today accused the state Congress Government of misusing government machinery to favour its candidates in the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) elections, which are to be held on May 23.

Addressing mediapersons here, party's former state president and incharge of for the corporation elections Suresh Bhardwaj said Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his other cabinet ministers were pressurizing government employees to campaign for the Congress party.

He alleged that the Congress, fearing its defeat in the ensuing SMC elections, was trying to create an environment of terror and the physical assault on police sub inspector by Chief Minister's brother-in-law last night was a case in point.

Expressing optimism that BJP would emerge victorious in these elections, he said despite all ''devious means'' employed by the Congress, the party would win the local body elections.

Mr Bhardwaj said during the BJP's regime new water supply pipe lines were laid in the town to prevent any water leakage, but the present government had not made them operational without any convincing reason.

The people of the state were fed up with the Congress rule and have decided to vote in favour of the BJP, he claimed.
