Baba Seechewal launches spl drive to clean Holy Bein

Kapurthala May 18 (UNI) Renowned environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal today launched a special drive to remove hyacinth and under water vegetation from the Holy Bein at Kanjali picnic spot here.

Baba Seechewal, along with Deputy Commissioner JMBalamurugan, inaugurated the special drive to remove hyacinth which was choking the Bein at Kanjali for the past several years .

The problem had attracted media attention due to large number of fish dying in the area recently.

Baba Seechewal told media persons that problem of hyacinth could not be solved till sewage water was not stopped and flow of fresh water in the rivulet was not increased.

The DC said under the present drive, hyacinth growth will be removed from the stretch from Kanjali picnic spot to village Subhanpur.

Meanwhile, the administration has put a ban on releasing of sewage into the bein, which has been declared holy by the state Government, he said.

Mr Balamurugan also said Kanjali picnic spot would be developed further to attract tourists.

The cleanin drive was boosted by a device developed by Sukhjit Singh, a follower of Baba Seechewal, which was an improvised hand-like device fitted with a JCV machine to take out hyacinth from the rivulet.

Meanwhile the DC has asked Baba Seechewal to provide the innovation for the four JCV machines lying with district administration which would also be pressed into service to remove the hyacinth from the rivulet.
