Australia-UNODC 10 m dollar project to include Mizoram

Aizawl, May 18 (UNI) Mizoram will be included in the Australia-UNODC 10 million Australia dollar project to combat HIV/AIDS in India.

This information was given yesterday by Australian High Commissioner to India Johyn Mc Carthy to Governor Lt Gen (Rtd) M M Lakhera here.

Mc Carthy, who arrived here yesterday on a two-day visit, disclosed that the project was likely to be launched next month.

He said DoNER minister Mani Shankar Aiyar had invited him to visit the Northeastern states.

The governor told the high commissioner that although Mizoram faced a long period of insurgency, it was now moving ahead with peace. He said the state had vast potential in bamboo, flowers, grape and other cash crop cultivations.

Mc Carthy would visit Asom, Nagaland and Maghalaya tomorrow.
