Ajmer dargah nazim retracts dress code decision for ziyarins
Ajmer, May 18 (UNI) The dress code announced for ziyarins visiting the Sufi Saint Khwaja Saheb's dargah here, have come under flak from various quarters, forcing the dargah nazim to take back his orders.
Dargah nazim Ahmed Raza had outlined a special dress code for those visiting the dargah. Men are supposed to come attired in shirts with sleeves that stretch till elbows and ankle length trousers or pyjama besides cap or cloth covering the head.
While women ziyarin would have to wear ankle-length salwar, kameez or saree and cover their heads with chunari or pallu.
According to Raza, dress code has been imposed keeping in view frequent disputes over objectionable clothes worn by ziyarins.
Dargah committee's Sadr Peerzada Sibli Qasim, who has objected to this dress code, said the committee has not discussed the dress code so far and hence nazim's instructions in this context are out of place.
Raza had, in fact, started the process of putting the dress code notices on board but dargah Khadims' organisation, Anjuman protested against the move, saying the decision smacks of dictatorship.
Anjuman chief Saiyad Moin Hussain Chisti said people from all religions come to the dargah to offer prayers and wear decent dress as they are aware of the sanctity of this place.
He said filmstars like Katrina Kaif, whose knee-length frock, during the shooting of Namaste London at the dargah, had caused a furore, do come in sometimes but the khadims who help them perform prayers, make them aware about the proper dress to be worn. He said it is impossible to impose a 'school uniform' like dress code in the dargah.
