Woman charred to death in fire accident
Rajahmundry, May 17 (UNI) One woman was charred to death and as many as twenty-two huts were reduced to ashes when a butt of the cigarette was thrown in the dust this evening at Indiranagar by unidentified persons here today.
According to Fire Officer D R B Raju, the mishap occurred when a 28-year-old woman was caught in the fire accident and was charred to death. About Rs 23 lakh worth property was destroyed and two gas-cylinders were burst.
The hut-dwellers were sanctioned houses under Rajiv Grahakalpa, but were residing in the huts temporarily, as their houses were under construction. Most of them are daily wage earners.
Fire-tenders rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
Mr Raju said, but for timely action of the fire-tenderers, the fire could have spread to the neighbouring areas, including J K Tyre godown.
Rajahmundry MLA Routhu Surya Prakas Rao, was among others, who visited the spot and consoled the victims. Relief measures were provided to the affected people.
