Jaipur, May 17 (UNI) The Rajasthan Government is considering seriously the proposal of inclusion in school curriculum the topics of need and means of rain water harvesting and water conservation and related water issues.

This written assurance has been given by a government spokesman to the Jal Biradari, an outfit of water conservationists, in a letter this week, Magsaysay Awardee water movement activist Rajendra Singh said today.

Mr Singh, who is the president of Jal Biradari, told reporters here that his organisation had sent a detailed proposal with draft of the topics and their proposed texts for inclusion in educational curriculum at the school and college levels in Rajasthan.

Mr Singh said that mass awareness and people oriented coordinated efforts of water conservation could solve the water crisis being faced by the state and the country at large.

Therefore, water literacy in schools and college was of vital importance and his movement was making efforts with the government for inclusion of these issues in the academic curriculum.

He said that in a bid to realise the objectives of the Water Declaration 2005, the Jal Biradari is organising Jal Satyagaraha through out the country and as part of this mass awareness campaign, programmes would initially be organised in Piplu in Sawai Madhopur district and Toda Raisingh Nagar in Tonk district which would later be extended to other parts of the state.
