Tripura: INPT demands CBI probe into civilian deaths
Agartala, May 17: The Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) has demanded a CBI inquiry into the civilian casualty in police encounter in the state during 1993-2005.
INPT general secretary Rabindra Debbarma,MLA, today termed as "fake" most of the encounters.
He informed that the state government had accepted about 28 of the ''fake encounter deaths'' in the Assembly.
''Ever since the intensification of counter-insurgency operation in Tripura, innocent tribal youths have become easy targets of the security personnel,'' he stated.
Citing the latest incident, he alleged that TSR jawans, led by Assistant Commandant Pinaki Samanta, killed Arpan Debbarma and Manas Debbarma, at Badlabari area under West Tripura on April seven.
''Police filed an FIR only after the residents of the area carried out a mass petition,'' Mr Debbarma said.
The Opposition had alleged that about 103 innocent tribal youths had been killed by security forces in ''fake encounters'' in the state in the past ten years.
