Three killed, five wounded in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 17 (UNI) Three people were killed and five others wounded in separate incidents across the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours, police said.

They said two people were killed and three others wounded when a speeding tipper-truck turned turtle in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir this morning.

The tipper-truck overturned at Nadihal near Baramulla, resulting in an on-the-spot death of Mohammad Arif Dar and Mohammad Ramzan.

Three others travelling in the vehicle were also wounded in the accident, police added. The injured have been hospitalised.

Police said two motorcyclists were wounded after their vehicles collided with each other at Kokerhama in Damhal Hanjipora area of Anantnag district.

The wounded, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat and Manzoor Ahmad, were immediately shifted to a hospital. However, Bhat later succumbed to injuries at SKIMS Soura near here.

A Power Development Department (PDD) employee was wounded while rectifying a fault at the 250 KV sub station at Kawdara here.

Linesman Ghulam Ahmad Wani was rushed to the SKIMS for treatment.

Meanwhile, Abdul Qayoom Sheikh attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at his residence at Batamaloo here. He was rushed to the SMHS Hospital here for treatment.
