Senior HNLC leader surrenders

Shillong, May 17 (UNI) A 'sergeant major' of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) surrendered before the General Officer Commanding, 101 Area Maj GenVinod Nayanar in Meghalaya today.

The militant, Andy Roy Lartang alias Bah Deng, decided to shun the path of violence following the 'adamant' attitude of the HNLC leaders in Bangladesh towards the low-ranking cadres, police said.

The ultra, however, did not deposit any arms or ammunition during the surrender ceremony.

Meanwhile, police have got some information about the present activities of the HNLC in the state and Bangladesh.
