Rs 64 cr worth goods traded at Indo Myanmar border

Imphal, May 17 (UNI) The trade volume during 2006-07 between India and Myanmar at Moreh, along the Manipur-Myanmar border, was to the tune of Rs 62.13 cr (export) and Rs 1.78 crore (import), Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh informed the state Assembly today.

Mr Singh made this observation while replying to a question raised by Radhabinod Koijam of NCP.

Several measures were taken to promote link with South East Asia and to expand existing trade with Myanmar, he further said.

About 22 items were allowed to be traded between the two countries at Moreh, he said.

The Chief Minister further said that the government had not yet decided to inaugurate Sadar Hills as a full-fledged revenue district. Mr Ibobi said there were 604 grant-in-aided schools in Manipur.

The House also paid obituary reference to Ng Luikang, former state minister who died yesterday. Ng Luikang had represented Tadubi of Senapati district and had won as Congress MLA in 1980 and 1984.
