RAC to adopt innovative measures to recruit best brains

Bangalore, May 17 (UNI) The Recruitment and Assessment Centre (RAC) of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has recommended various measures to the Centre to attract and retain talent in premier defence research establishments across the country.

Centre Chairman K V Raghavan told newspersons here last night that the proposals included career promotions, incentive schemes, productivity linked incentives and sabbatical leave.

He said the RAC had the mandate to provide Human Resource requirement to various DRDO wings besides assessing scientists for promotion.

Dr Raghavan said RAC which helped induction of about 1,000 scientists every year and also assesses the suitability of more than 1,400 scientists for promotion to next higher grade, have been constantly evolving its efforts to retain and recruit best brains for the DRDO.

The DRDO had over 31,000 staff including about 7,000 scientists and another 12,000 Technical staff. RAC had imbibed several best features of UPSC while adopting its own innovative methods for selection of personnel to deploy in critical technologies relevant to national security.

He said the RAC in its effort to attract the best brains for the services of DRDO also conducts annual camp selections at 27 National Institutes of excellence including IITs, NITs besides conducting Scientist Entry Test (SET) for entry-level recruitment. The selection process, which was hailed as the most transparent and unbiased one, was being done by IITs for RAC while maintaining GOI roster system in recruitment.

Once appointed, the DRDO takes utmost care of the career- advancement of its scientists and operates a fully Flexible Complementing Scheme (FCS) wherein during each promotion, based purely on merit, the post in the grades of Scientist 'B' to 'G' are upgraded automatically to the next higher grades, Dr Raghavan said.
